Application is through Chweched Powys Sixth - our partnership with other Powys Sixth Forms.
The Seren programme is available to year 8 to 13 learners from state schools and further education colleges across Wales, regardless of their economic background, personal situation, or location.
By providing extra-curricular study experiences and super-curricular enrichment activities that enhance and go beyond the curriculum, Seren supports the aspirations and ambitions of the most talented and able learners, helping expand their horizons, and develop a lifelong passion for learning.
Support includes subject-specific masterclasses, workshops, tutorials, study guides, advice and guidance, mentoring, help in developing personal statements, mock interviews, and online conferences. Further information can be found in the Seren Prospectus here: gov.wales/seren-network-prospectus
Seren 2021-22
Our Seren 2021 Students are: Amber Tait, Cori Kite, Alex Powell, Dylan Downs, Megan Costall and Katie Hill, Lucy Jones, Jake Donaldson and Olivia Robson.
In 2020 they attended the online SEREN Conference to have early access to university events and guidance on applying to competitive courses (i.e. Medicine/Veterinary courses and Russell Group Universities).
Since then they have attended a range of SEREN organised events and talks, summer schools and some have achieved the SEREN Award!
Seren Award Success
Following attending the Launch and Conference in 2020, 2 students went on to complete the prestigious SEREN Award. This meant that they had to follow the process shown (click on the image to the right):

Summer School Participants
One area that SEREN encourage is University Summer Schools, these are a great way to extend your learning and begin to consider what University study skills are required.
Despite Covid restrictions, in Summer 2021, Alex Powell attended the Jesus College, Oxford Summer School. Amber Tait completed the Nottingham University (Sutton Trust) Summer School. Congratulations to both of them. Both found the experiences a useful insight to University study.
SEREN Updates
SEREN student and former Head Girl Katie Shackleton accessed support from the SEREN Network to provide work experience and mentoring to assist her future planning. Katie completed her UCAT EXAM with a high score, and went on to achieve these results: A* Maths A* Chemistry A* Biology She is now off to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham! Congratulations Katie!
2020 SEREN student Chloe Ralph accessed support from the SEREN Network to find opportunities to extend her experiences. She took part in the Sutton Trust Summer school at Bristol University. Studying social and political sciences for a week. She also spent a week in London as part of the Social Mobility Foundation Residential programme. She was on an internship at the international law firm Linklaters. Chloe completed her courses and achieved these results: B Maths A Welsh Baccalaureate A Psychology B Law She is now in her Second Year at Oxford University studying Clinical Psychology. Congratulations Chloe!
SEREN Student Ryan Parry made full use of the support of guidance offered at Newtown High School and through the SEREN Network. He was offered a university place following a successful interview, and attained the following results: A* Maths A* Physics A* Chemistry A* Welsh Baccalaureate He is now in Year 3 studying Economics and Management at The University of Oxford! Congratulations Ryan!
