Welsh NC

Introduction:

Studying Cymraeg isn’t just about the language; it’s about the culture and discovering your identity, whilst experimenting creatively with the language. Through our language continuum, we embark on a journey to gain confidence in using this amazing Celtic language in everyday life, to normalise its use outside of the classroom, to give everyone a real-life experience of what it is to be Cymry today. Cymraeg is a language which broadens the horizons of your mind. It’s a tool for self-reflection, self-expression, for oneself. It’s a bridge to understanding the complexities of the world around us and gives us an insight into the emotions of others.

Skills developed:

Studying Cymraeg provides learners with a range of valuable skills that are essential for their personal, and professional development. Here are some of the key skills that learners will develop when studying Cymraeg:

  • Communication Skills: Studying Cymraeg helps learners improve their ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. They learn how to express their thoughts and ideas clearly and confidently.
  • Critical Thinking: Cymraeg teaches learners how to analyse pieces of writing and correct the grammatical errors found. They learn how to interpret texts, make connections between ideas, and develop logical arguments.
  • Creativity: Through studying Cymraeg, learners can enhance their creativity and imagination. They learn how to think outside the box and explore new ideas, drawing upon knowledge previously gained along with those from pieces provided to them.
  • Language Proficiency: Studying Cymraeg improves learners’ language proficiency, including grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. This enables them to communicate fluently and accurately in both spoken and written Cymraeg.
  • Cultural Awareness: Cymraeg exposes learners to different cultures, perspectives, and historical contexts through the language journey of Blwyddyn 7-13. This helps them develop a broader understanding of the world and appreciate diversity.

Overall, studying Cymraeg equips learners with essential skills that are valuable not only during their school years, but also in their future endeavours.
