Welsh Cup U15 Girls

On Thursday 9th October, our Under 15 girls made the trip to Llanfyllin in the first round of the Welsh Cup. The game was very competitive, physical, and hard-fought. Congratulations goes to Llanfyllin for their 3-1 win.

We made a great start to the game with early pressure from Sioned, Laci and Lowri forcing their defence into a mistake that saw Lowri able to bundle the ball home to give us a 1-0 lead.

Llanfyllin responded well and a lobbed finish and then a great strike from outside the box gave them a 2-1 lead at half time.

The game remained close throughout the second half, with our impressive goalkeeper Mia making some smart saves, but also starting some great attacks for us with her kicking. With 5 minutes to go a deflected Newtown shot whistled past the post and unfortunately that was the closest we’d come to finding an equaliser and Llanfyllin scored on the counter with seconds to go to seal the win.

It was brilliant to see so many standout performances for Newtown and genuine improvement from every single player since last year's 5-0 defeat to the same opposition. Captain Sioned was superb in midfield throughout, tireless winger Ffion created lots of chances and centre back Nikola defended brilliantly.
