Welsh Cup Football u13 Success
Our u13 boys football team booked their place into the Quarter Finals of the Welsh Cup today, with a gutsy 3-2 win against Greenhill School from Tenby in very challenging conditions.
Playing with the wind and rain at their backs in the first half, Newtown opened the scoring with an instinctive back-heel finish from striker Tom PL, before Greenhill equalised in an even opening from
both teams. Further pressure from the Newtown midfield led to a fine finish from midfielder Alvaro to make it 2-1, however Greenhill pounced on some indecision at the back to make it 2-2 at half time.
The second half was a tense affair in tough conditions, however the Newtown back four of Riley, James, Luca, Charlie and substitute Brooklyn did a fantastic job of limiting Greenhill’s chances, with Ryan in goal also making some excellent saves. After a fantastic rearguard effort helped out by Newtowns midfield of Ethan, Jack, Tommy and Logan, Newtown took their chance after good play from Alfie saw a foul in the box with Alvaro confidently placing the penalty in the corner to make it 3-2 Newtown. Newtown battled away resolutely, boosted by substitutes Rohan and Callum, to win the tie and make it through to play Whitchurch from Cardiff, away in the next round!
Well done boys, a fantastic effort in poor conditions. Thank you Greenhill for an excellent game!
