Welsh Cup Football U18 Boys vs Llanidloes

Last Tuesday (1st October) it was the turn of our U18 Boys Football Team in the Welsh Cup, who put in a good performance in their 1st round match at home against visitors Llanidloes, before eventually falling to 2 late goals in an evenly matched and entertaining 2-4 loss.

Newtown opened the scoring in the first half through year 11 pupil George Farrington, who latched onto a well-timed pass from mid-field after good link-up play between Kieron Watson and James Stovell, finishing well to put Newtown 1-0 up. Newtown created a number of other chances, with centre forward Watson and midfielder Stovell in the thick of it, but couldn't capitalise with a number of shots going just wide or over the bar. Llanidloes battled back into the game to make it 1-1 at half-time, with it all to play for in the second half.

Newtown started well after the interval going 2-1 up, with left back Cole Moore finishing well at the near post after a marauding run up the left wing, after good inter-play with midfielder Corbin Vowles. Llanidloes replied swiftly to make it 2-2 and then started using the slope effectively with a direct approach which caught Newtown napping twice in the last ten minutes, final score 2-4 to deserved winners Llanidloes. Lots of effort from the boys but momentary lapses in concentration at the back and not taking their chances at the other end proved costly in the end. Well done and thank you to Llani for a great game, played in great spirit and best of luck in the next round!
