Welsh Cup Football U15 Girls 3-4 Ysgol Bro Caereinion
Newtown started last Friday’s match strongly, playing the better football from the off, creating several chances, before Caereinion’s captain scored an impressive double to give the home side a quick fire 2-0 lead.
Newtown responded brilliantly, carrying on with their play from the first 15 minutes but this time with rewards at the end of it. Straight from kick off, Ebony took on her defender well before a powerful drive beat the Caereinion keeper. Then Ebony played through Abi who calmly slotted home, to make it 2-2 at half time.
Bro Caereinion again went ahead after half time through a well finished move down their right, but Newtown again showed resilience and responded quickly with a goal of their own. Lowri’s shot was parried by the home sides keeper, but Eliza was in the right place at the right time to apply a composed finish.
At 3-3 the game could’ve gone either way and Newtown will feel as if they could’ve had a penalty on another day, before a quick throw in from Caereinion led to their captain sealing her hat-trick from close range.
A superb effort by the girls in a game of far greater quality than a first round match. Standout performances aside from the goal scorers came from captain Madii who led her defence brilliantly from centre back, Skye who defended superbly from right back all game and Cara who was everywhere in midfield on a difficult pitch.
Our U15 boys team also played Caereinion, however put in a lacklustre display against a strong home team, despite good individual performances from captain Jake, combative centre back Kyle and hard working wing back Shay. A consolation goal from yr9 striker Konrad was not enough in a disappointing 7-1 defeat.
Congratulations to Ysgol Bro Caereinion and good luck in the next round!
