Welsh Cup Boys Football U13s 3 vs 1 Welshpool

Our U13 Boys football team are through to the Powys Final of the Welsh Cup after beating Welshpool 3-1 this afternoon with a fantastic performance in a very keenly contested and entertaining match.

Both teams created their chances in an even first half, the contest in midfield of the highest order, with Jack D and Alvaro J-H at the fore helping to create some openings and half-chances down the Welshpool right between Tom P-L and Tommy P. The back four were solid, led by James P-L who seemed to be everywhere. Half-time 0-0.

The second half saw much of the same with both teams finding a bit more space as legs started to tire. A dangerous break down Newtown's right saw the Welshpool right winger latch onto a through ball who then finished well at the near post. 1-0 Welshpool with about 20 mins to play.

Newtown carried on creating chances after but couldn't quite manage to make the breakthrough, fresh legs in the form of substitutes Brooklyn L, Rohan C-J and Callum D gave the home team an added boost. With well under 10 mins to go, good play between Rohan C-J and Jack D down the right led to a cross to the back post where Tommy P, like all good left wings, was in the right place at the right time to calmly finish from 5 yards out. The score at 1-1 with under 5 mins left had the look of penalties to decide, however an almost identical move down the right saw Tommy P again getting on the end of a cross to the back post to finish to make it 2-1. The result was then put beyond doubt after a fine run from Jack D into the box saw him fouled, with Tom P-L calmly slotting home the penalty in the bottom left corner to make it 3-1 final score.

A fantastic team performance where all players gave it their all and never stopped trying. Thank you to Welshpool for a cracking game. Next for our U13s sees them against the winners of Llanidloes/Llanfair in the Powys Final!
