U16 Welsh Cup Football vs Penweddig

Our u16 boys football team travelled to Aberystwyth yesterday for their 1st round match vs Penweddig, where they came away with a hard-working & solid 1-1 draw.

Wearing their fantastic new kit, generously sponsored by Evabuild, the Newtown back four of Shay, Man of the Match Ashton, Riley and Rhys defended well throughout, helping to limit the home team to a few chances which were confidently dealt with by first-time goalkeeper Kyle. Midfielders Jake, Jayden, Finley, Leo and Gethin worked timelessly in both attack and defence, supporting pacey centre forward Konrad who was a constant threat and didn’t stop pressing throughout.

Penweddig took the lead after 25 mins before Newtown responded with a long throw from Jayden which led to Finley setting up Jake to finish really well from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner. Both teams had their chances to take the lead in the second half, Joel came on to add impact and energy, however it remained 1-1, which was a true reflection of an evenly matched and well-contested game played in the best spirit.
