North Powys Football Tournament Success
A cracking day of football at Latham Park for today's North Powys KS3 Football Tournament.
Our Year 7 team beat Bro Hyddgen, Llanfyllin, Llanidloes and Caereinion on their way to a showdown with unbeaten Welshpool in their final game, knowing that a draw or a win would be enough to become champions thanks to their better goal difference of +11. Newtown opened the scoring with Tom Pengelly-Leach after good work from Tommy Price and Clayton Arzu before Welshpool equalised to set up a tense finish. However it was Newtown's captain Jack Davies who found himself through on goal in the remaining few minutes to calmy finish and claim the title for Newtown. A fantastic effort from all of the squad throughout the day!
Our Year 8 team played some really good football throughout the day and remained unbeaten, however 1 win and 4 draws weren't enough to challenge for top spot. Captain James Pengelly-Leach, midfielder Alvaro Juarez-Hernandez and striker Logan Grant stood out in a really good squad effort.
Our year 9 team put in a good show with two wins against Bro Hyddgen and Caereinion however lost their other 3 games to count them out of the reckoning. Captain Konrad Sznajder, midfielder Jayden Reynolds and defender Tyler Mitchell were the stand-out performers in a good all round effort from year 9.
Da iawn pawb, great effort everyone and a massive well done to our Year 7 team on becoming North Powys Champions!!
