North East Wales U15 Rugby Bowl Final vs Ysgol Morgan Llwyd

On Tuesday 24th March our U15 Boys Rugby Team travelled to Wrexham RFC to take on Ysgol Morgan Llwyd in the U15 North East Wales Bowl Final.

Playing up the slope and into the wind in the 1st half, Newtown started brightly, playing a high tempo and looking to run the ball and play with width as much as possible, a deliberate tactic to try and tire out the big opposition pack of forwards. This paid off with an early try for dynamic number 8 Shane who finished off a fine try in the corner, before a sharp blind side snipe from scrum half Elli off a central scrum, was finished off by hard-working wing Finn H. Strong running centre Tyler, prop Alfie C and the Newtown forwards made good ground through a series of phases, which led to powerful prop Kai barrelling over to make 15-0 after 25 minutes. Morgan Llwyd started making some big gains with a series of powerful runs from their big props and number 8, which led to a try just before half time to make it 15-5.

With the wind behind them and playing down the slope in the 2nd half, Newtown continued to play with pace and tempo, with half backs Elli and Aiden directing play smartly, leading to fine team tries finished off by Shane, for his second, then a further two for wing Finn H to seal a fine hat-trick. Tyler kicked three conversions to seal the deal with the final score 36-5 to Newtown in an excellent performance to lift the trophy.

A huge well done and congratulations to all of the squad, a performance full of effort, team-work and confidence! A big thank you to Morgan Llwyd for a great game played in fantastic spirit, as well as the WRU RGC Team for organising an excellent day and also to Bob Jones from Newtown RFC for your help on the day!
