French NC
In year 7, all learners are studying French. This is, for the vast majority of our learners, a new international language to add to their bow. This is a really exciting time, as we learn through singing and role-plays. Throughout the years, learners will develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills whilst learning French twice weekly.
Through the study of French, every learner will become an even better communicator (in French but also in all their other languages). Our pupils improve their resilience and become more ambitious capable learners. They will discover other cultures and compare their life to that of others around the French speaking world. Over year 7, 8, 9, and for those awesome learners studying French at GCSE, they will undeniably become more informed citizens who will be ready to be citizens of Wales and the World. Studying French will open their minds and their horizons, empowering them for the future.
In Year 7, learners start by making connections between French and any other language they know: English, Welsh, Polish, Turkish, Italian, Spanish, Kurdish or Ukrainian for example. They find similar words or grammatical constructions or recognise differences, which will help make them more proficient. This process intensifies in year 8 and year 9.
